The club has been bursting with energy this past month as Grade 5, 6 and 7 students have been coming to "curling school." Cathy PIdduck continues to lead our mission to teach every student in Oliver and Okanagan Falls in these grades how to curl! With the invaluable and steadfast support of our club volunteers (thank you!), each class has three on-ice sessions to learn and practice basic curling skills and play a short game. So far we've had classes from Oliver Elementary School, Okanagan Falls Elementary School and, as this story in the Oliver Chronicle captures, Tuc-el-Nuit Elementary School: Students learning to throw rocks in good way.

These sessions are loads of fun for students, teachers and volunteers. There are still more scheduled before the Christmas break, and another school will be coming in February, so please sign up on the volunteer board to help if you can.

This year students and parents from the Valley of Friends Learning Circle Society also came for a learn to curl session. Among the 13 adults and 28 kids (5 to 15 years old) were these mini-rock stars:

This year's Turkey Shoot is happening on Thursday, December 13 starting at 7 pm.

All curlers are welcome: young and old, male and female, current and former, good and less good.

Just $3 to throw three stones. Enter as many times and on as many sheets as you want. Ten players per draw, and the player with the most points wins a turkey or ham.

No charge to watch and cheer from the bar!

See George Hagel if you need more info (or tips!).

All our leagues will start up again the week of January 7. If you haven't already registered for the full season, please let the league reps know if you want to sign up for any leagues in the next half. (Similary, tell them if you won't be playing regularly in the second half although you registered for the year). And please let them know before we break for the holidays: many of them are putting together teams now before all the festivities and/or sunny southern escapes distract them.

Practice sessions will also start again beginning with Sunday, January 13 from 2 to 4 pm. We'll have practice ice on Monday and Wednesday again too but need to see how many teams/draws there are first.

And if those weren't enough to burn off holiday calories, we've got lots of events to start off the new year: Ladies Snowman Bonspiel (January 11), Family Fun Day (January 19) and Junior Bonspiel (February 2). Stay tuned to see how you can get involved.

Happy holidays and see you in the new year!
